As usual, Dave’s brain wasn’t working. Here are the actual CDs he got with the correct names and titles [the one with the egg on it is Wilco’s A Ghost Is Born]:

  1. Happy Easter, Sneakers! Let us rejoice, for the bunny hath brought us chocolate eggs from Purdy’s and Thomas Haas so that we may commit the sin of gluttony and give J.C. some work to do on the anniversary of his first day back on the job after that unfortunate Good Friday incident.

The location used in the X-Men movies for Prof. Xavier’s school is at Royal Roads University (formerly Military College). It was Lex Luther’s home in Smallville and the Queen Mansion in Arrow — the exterior at least. Don’t know about the interior. There’s a list of films and TV shows that were shot there on this website. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hatley_Park_National_Historic_Site#History

Re: book signings. No doubt there are some writers for whom this is a huge chore, but I’m sure that for many of them, it helps them get through those long solitary stretches behind a keyboard when they remember their readers telling them in person, “I really loved that book/comic. I appreciate all the work you put into it. The world is a better place because you are in it. Please keep writing.”

  2. Dave – I’m with you on Tame Impala. I grabbed a couple of CDs from the local library to see if they were worth buying but quickly discovered they were not to my taste. Which CD did you get? I believe their early stuff was less electronic, but I’m no hipster so I wouldn’t know…

On Freebird – 20 years ago I had a weekly stint on community radio playing rock music and had a guy call in one week (I think the only caller I ever got) who told me that he listened to my show every week, loved Skynyrd, and could I play one of their songs that he had never heard – Freebird. Not only is it one of the two Skynyrd songs that everybody knows, but I had played it the previous week… I don’t think I obliged him.

I’ve just read Pride & Prejudice for the first time after your comment that it was a ‘perfect book’ a couple of weeks ago, so thanks for that. My own sister’s love of it was clearly not sufficient recommendation – now I think I’ll have to read it again to appreciate it fully! In that vein, and having missed ‘A Dollop of Trollope’ for a few weeks, which of his books would you recommend for someone who has not read any?
