Sneaky Dragon Episode 245

Sneaky-Dragon-Episode-245

Ciao, Sneakers! Welcome to another episode of Sneaky Dragon! This week on the show Ian and Dave have a wasp/bee controversy; discuss Ant-Man benefits; agree that spying on women in showers is wrong – unless you’re a giant; reminisce about Monty Python and SCTV…oh, and SNL; Dave bemoans the end of the “stumble upon” moment; Ian is outraged by MacLeod vs. Dracula; we pay another visit to the saxophone; Dave likes what he likes; Ian has some healthy brain tips; Ian has some fun with cat needles; he is also in full-on pitch mode, but it seems that Dave is a terrible pitchman; Dave is not impressed by Sammy Davis Jr; Ian would like your pet pics; and, finally, Dave’s epic Footloose rant.

And please don’t forget to think up some questions for our upcoming Listener’s Questions Episode. As per usual, we’ll have goody bags for all participants and a grand prize that we’ll raffle off to one lucky questioneer. Every question equals one chance so the more questions you ask – the more chances you have to win! 1. I’m not sure if there are others, but this is Eugene Levy’s Bobby Bittman schtick on the Sammy Maudlin show.

And it exemplifies what I’d say is a key difference in the way SCTV and Python feel today, specifically, timing. Although Monty Python is over a decade older, its timing in many shows still feels contemporary, even punchy. SCTV can feel a bit slow. I love both for their own brilliance, but I’m partial to the chopped up chaos of Python, even if many SCTV bits have a bigger payoff for the buildup.

  2. I have been digging the Rockford Files. The dialogue is pretty snappy and fun and some twists have caught me off guard. There’s also a lot of little “real life” moments that add depth to the show, like them ordering a sandwich and he’s like “Dang it, they forgot the mustard!”

  3. I was such a fan of Rockford Files when I auditioned for Happy Gilmore I was star struck to meet the director Dennis Dugan who played Richie Brockelman on the show (and in the short lived spin off).

    1. Happy Gilmore was on late night TV last weekend and I hadn’t seen it before, so I watched a good chunk of it to see Ian’s Subway sandwich scene and the gag where my cousin Steve played the long-haired golf fan who gave Happy a drink from his beer bong. It was a bit mind-blowing to see Steve looking like the stereotypical Surrey youth he was then since he’s gone on to be a responsible IT guy and husband and I’d just gone to the baptism of his first child two Sundays ago!

It was also fun seeing other members of the local comedy community like Dave Cameron as a TV reporter, Peter Kelamis as a caddy, and Ellie Harvie as a tournament registrar interacting with the rest of the quirky cast.
