Sneaky Dragon Episode 275

Hellooooo, Sneakers! Welcome to episode 275 of the popular game show Sneaky Dragon. This week  on the show, Ian and Dave have a professional start; get into a fudge conflict; take a trip to Seattle; re-visit Stephen King’s dumb book It; have some Critical Hit crit; experience eye trouble; visit Riverdale; meet Gerhard; travel in Dave’s beloved ex-car; drown their car fears; get car sexy; discuss “The One That Got Away” playlist; discover Dave’s love of corn; reminisce about being carnival kids; wonder if kids really are creative; marvel at the intricate worlds of dreams; get Reykjavik-ed; and, finally, get sucked out a window.

Thanks for listening.

  1. I think a Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute band who can’t play any songs but manages to crash and burn is still thematically/metaphorically successful.

  2. Jealous? Well, some, sure, but not in any serious way, and it’s plenty subjugated to a sense of vicarious delight that you got to hang out with one of the proverbial nicest guys in comics. I had a similar honor when he attended one of the Spirits of Independence tour stops (Seattle, probably?) in the mid-90s. There was an afterparty at the thing, and we (almost) all got drunk and loose-tongued, and had the one of the best time of our comics lives discussing techniques and swapping war stories. Which, for comics creators, naturally consist in large part of con weirdness and Funny Things That Happen to Me in the Studio, but Funny-Strange, Not, Y’know, -Haha™.

At one point, Colin Upton and Dave Sim sang “O Canada” at near top-of-lung volume, to show a little True North spirit in response to some kind of perceived Usanian arrogance, and that was only halfway through the burgeoning haze for me. Gerhard was unfailingly gracious, even willing to (briefly) talk Issue 186. But, all that said, it’s not as cool as identifying artistically and his being happy to encounter you again. Well done.

I really want to meet up again one of these days, because when I started doing Greymatter, one of my first industry buddies was the late Drew “Poison Elves” Hayes. During a phone call after the tour, Drew smugly told me of getting very drunk with Gerhard and the latter finally revealing his last name. After all this time, I really want to see if he was telling the truth…or, if he was, Ger was to him.

  3. Are former friends of the show exempt from the White Spot contest? Because I haven’t been to a White Spot since I was allowed to order a Pirate Pack.

Also: Thank you so much for the kind words about the Critical Hit Show Comic. You guys are the best.

Dave, if you ever want to give me colouring tips I’d love to hear them; colouring is easily my least favourite part of making art, so colourists seem like magicians to me. Keep on keeping on, you magical awesome colouring wizards!

  4. I start to listen to you lads from Totally Tintin and reliving childhood memories. I badger you with kickboxing question. I start to listen to Completely Beatles, can I ask for spoiler which is album that gets the nods as the best from the boys?
