Sneaky Dragon Episode 293

Ciao, Sneakers! Welcome to the greatest podcast that has ever existed in the history of the Internet!!!!!!!! (And people say we’re bad at self-promotion.) This week on the show, Ian and Dave are still hot (temperature-wise); more amusing Coke slogans; a visit with the Krispies family; playing with sore losers; celebrating drug awareness; a tribute to Underdog; getting rid of the siren game; a mysterious moustache box; making mix tapes; Dave’s indifference to lyrics; Ian’s indifference to poetry; we have no standards; too much Cliffhanger; hit songs in a foreign language (Where did they go?); some light spoiler-free Spider-man talk; a problem with superhero movies; a passionate, slightly spoiler-y defense of Baby Driver; a passionate, coherent-free defense of Hudson Hawk; remembering cassettes; a passionate defense of album tracks; a big recommendation for Kliph Nesteroff’s Vice show Funny How?; let’s pooh-pooh Christian comedy; let’s just pooh-pooh Christians; and, finally, Ian and Dave’s big money-making idea.

Thanks for listening.

Don’t forget we would like to hear from our funny and talented listeners. It’s easy!

  1. Have some dinner with Ian and Dave, and, if you want, watch Sneaky Dragon being recorded. All you have to do is send us a little message that says, “I’d like to eat with you!” and Ian and Dave will treat you to an after-show meal at their favourite White Spot.
  2. Send us your story. That’s right. Just your story. If you need a prompt, Ian suggested “your secret origin” and Dave suggested “how how you found Sneaky Dragon” Please record a two to three minute story and send it to us via email (sneakyd@sneakydragon.com) or our Facebook page. Or Skype Sneaky Dragon and leave a message on our voicemail. David will add a playlist for your story as well.

I still think the computer cleaning idea could be a big seller…

We didn’t mention it on the show, but the Cliffhanger trailer was also way better than the movie:

Oh, Hudson Hawk. Yo crazy.

  1. Funny you should mention hit songs in non-English languages.
This week’s Billboard #1 hit is the remix of Despacito (Slowly) by Puerto Rican artists Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee featuring Justin Bieber. The original version has two and a half billion hits on YouTube. Bieber does an English intro for the remix, but the rest is in Spanish which he learned phonetically and has since famously screwed up in live performance, but hey, at least he’s tried. Everyone’s saying it’s the song of the summer, don’t you know, and appropriately enough the lyrics are muy caliente – but Dave can just enjoy the Latin Reggae hiphop beat.

  2. Hi Ian and David,

Enjoyed the show very much as always.

Regarding movies with great opening scenes that overwhelm the rest of the film, I love the beginning of The Spy Who Loved Me. While I like the rest of the film nothing can match that stunt. Even the cut in of Roger Moore pretending to ski doesn’t take away from the opening.

Regarding Underdog, the show (and Tennessee Tuxedo) was produced by Total Television, which had a look similar to Jay Ward but less of the satirical edge and humor of the Ward cartoons. I liked Underdog as a kid but thought the show was never as good as the theme song they played between the Underdog chapters.

I believe the “Scott” David was thinking when you were discussing those cartoons was Bill Scott who was a producer, writer and voice actor for Jay Ward.

Look forward to the next episode!

    Robert

  3. I’m still only part way through this one, but in regards to movies with a killer opening the rest can’t live up to, I point to Final Destination, the first one (and possibly the second one with the highway accident.) I don’t mind the entirety of Final Destination, it’s a fun B grade horror, but that opener with the kids watching the plane explosion that shatters the windows even from so far away, always gives me the goosebumps.
