Sneaky Dragon Episode 296

Hola, Sneakers! Welcome to Episode 296 of the no awards-winning podcast Sneaky Dragon. This week on the show, Ian and Dave start with a surprising revelation; think there are too many episodes; ask, “Is it a dagger I see before me?”; find themselves in stitches; play the cancer card; discuss the films of Les Blank; consider fighting themselves; eat some licorice shoes; dream up the best scene ever; choose favourite silent film comedians; discuss an oddball Harold Lloyd film; start the search for the football movie director; fear untethering themselves from their lives; change over the course of their lives; agree relationships are tough; have a big announcement; remember bad animated movies; and, finally, airline travel…amirite?

Thanks for listening.

Please make our show better! We need your free content because ours stinks. Also, come and eat with us!

  1. Have some dinner with Ian and Dave, and, if you want, watch Sneaky Dragon being recorded. All you have to do is send us a little message that says, “I’d like to eat with you!” and Ian and Dave will treat you to an after-show meal at their favourite White Spot.
  2. Send us your story. That’s right. Just your story. If you need a prompt, Ian suggested “your secret origin” and Dave suggested “how how you found Sneaky Dragon” Please record a two to three minute story and send it to us via email (sneakyd@sneakydragon.com) or our Facebook page. Or Skype Sneaky Dragon and leave a message on our voicemail. David will add a playlist for your story as well.

Dave was wrong that Werner Herzog Eats His Shoe was short. It’s actually an hour long, but Herzog is such an interesting character that it just flies by, I guess. Anyway, it’s not available on YouTube, but here’s a little taste:

Once again, Blank’s The Maestro: King of the Cowboy Artists is not available on YouTube (and why should it be, quite frankly), but here is a little teaser:

Finally, here is the trailer for Blank’s Burden of Dreams:

  1. I’m shocked (shocked, I say!) that Ian, as a Simpsons comics writer declined to make the obvious “mo’ problems” joke.

Minecraft is still fantastic, and my go-to comfort game. Easiest way to get up to speed fast is to watch videos of people playing the early game. I watched Paul Soares’s survival intro and then got obsessed (this is typical) with the Yogscast Minecraft cornucopia. They’re probably dated, as that was in 2010. Good lord. I’m being told the console version has a hefty tutorial of its own, however.

The thing that keeps me coming back to Minecraft, and that makes it so perpetually playable, is the active and vibrant modding community, which has added machines, magic, creatures, blocks, ores, characters, and worlds to the basic game.

  2. Thanks for the shout-out during this week’s running gag…I guess. Say, a few days ago, a fundraiser phoned to thank me for donating to UBC’s Museum Of Anthropology last year. Then he hit me up for another donation. (True story.) So…MOA money, MOA problems.

Also, as I have previously pointed out in the comment section of your Simply Shakespeare Podcast, it was actually poison that Hamlet’s uncle poured into Hamlet’s dad’s ear, not molten metal. I believe that misconception originated in an early folio edition of the play which prompted Shakespeare to coin the phrase, “Get the lead out.”
