  1. That dessert with a Russian name is a “pavlova,” named after the ballerina. The baked meringue base is crunchy on the outside and marshmallowy on the inside. It’s topped with a layer of whipped cream and then sliced fruit. Kiwi fruit is traditional as the dessert is said to have been invented in either New Zealand or Australia (depending on whether you ask a New Zealander or an Australian.) I always make it for my mom on Mother’s Day but I usually use strawberries. I did a apple-pear-cinnamon-nutmeg topping for a Christmas Eve pavlova one year that was quite tasty.

A pavlova can be very sweet and you wind up with a bunch of egg yolks that’ll leave you “scrambling” to find uses for, so I can see where Dave would prefer the more tart and egg-use efficient lemon meringue pie.

Thanks for reiterating that an artist’s work can still stand even if his/her personal crimes. I tend to agree with that. The hardest revelation for me personally to learn about a celebrity was that concerning Bill Cosby! I grew up with parents who loved him. He was like a close family member! I still have several vinyls of theirs and a couple I bought myself as a young adult; his humor is woven through my life. I can quote long riffs of his that have always brought me great joy! So hard to put THAT Bill Cosby with the one revealed recently! But the good stuff stands.
