Sneaky Dragon Episode 317

Hola, Sneakers! Welcome to Episode 317 of Sneaky Dragon, the internet’s favourite podcast with dragon in the title that is not about dragons! (Very specific!)

This week on the show, Ian and Dave have colds; wrap presents; present some Christmas wit; have a corner cutting Christmas; get chi-chi; get food in the eye; have a complicated Christmas brunch; have a very passive-agressive Christmas; meet Silent Dave; eat some snacks; avoid phone chats; are hospitable; don’t hate Bram Stoker’s Dracula; list polarizing films; discuss The Last Jedi; give no fucks for continuity; mispronounce Star Wars names; save Star Wars; play with Star Wars; re-direct Star Wars; improve Star Wars; finally get nerdy; translate convenience; are over Will Smith; and, finally, have Donald Trump’s number.

Thanks for listening.

How Star Wars was saved:

The worst movie of 2017?

  1. Happy new year, folks! Hope everyone has recovered from the cold.

The part where you spoke about Bram Stoker’s Dracula reminded me of a great sad / funny song by John Grant, called Sigourney Weaver. The second verse has the lines: I feel just like Winona Ryder / In that movie about vampires / And she couldn’t get that accent right / And neither could that other guy.

  2. I’m pretty sure I’d have preferred your Return of the Jedi to the one I saw. Just to give a quick out for the original series, at least, re the universal translator issue: maybe the crew who were non-native English speakers had learned the language to serve in Star Fleet in the time the UT was finishing development, and they’re (relatively) new to use the thing.

For The Doctor, I d say he speaks English rather than translated Gallifreyan because he has a particular affinity for humans, and specifically the Brits. Maybe he wants to fluently idiom with the rest of them?

In the main, though, I agree that slavish adherence to continuity should always take a back seat to a compelling story.
