Sneaky Dragon Episode 328

Ciao, Sneakers! Welcome to a musical episode of Sneaky Dragon this week as Dave tackles your Top 5 songs on a subject of your choice.

But first we’ll have to wade through a lot of nonsense to get to that, including: a false start; some heart mockery; an unlucky episode; seagulls and french fry pants; a phone call with commentary; everyone having a “thing”; some happy sad memories and littering; the Switzerland of food; the longest scene; some movie recommendations for Meditation Park and Game Night; what Canadian movies are; some terrible movie trailers; patented transitions; turning off the show; the most villainous name; some Richie Rich trivia and trivial nonsense; music travails; the theme from Cars; disappointing Hanna-Barbera themes; political humour; and, finally, Dave’s Top 5 cat songs as requested by Louise.

Here are Dave’s Top 5 cat songs:
1) “Tyger” by No Fun from the 1984 album Snivel
2) “Phenomenal Cat” by The Kinks from the 1968 album The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society
3) “Black Cat” by Boy from the 2004 album Every Page You Turn
4) “Lions in My Own Garden (Exit Someone)” by Prefab Sprout from the 1982 7″ single b/w “Radio Love”
5) “Alley Cat” [or “Meow Meow”] by Jeffrey Frederick and the Clamtones from the 2005 album Clamtones B.C.

with bonus song:
“Wimoweh 5 1/2 Years Later” by The Tokens from the 1967 album It’s A Happening World

Thanks for listening.

  1. Great show, guys, and an inspired list of cat songs. I was trying to think of an Eagles cat song, just to torment Dave. How about Peaceful Easy Feline?

If it’s not too obvious (it is, but let’s press on) what about dog songs next time? Martha My Dear is my suggestion, along with Joni’s Coyote for the wider dog family.

  2. Thanks, Dave. I really enjoyed the kitty tracks! I’m always amazed at the catalogue (heh heh) of songs and vast music knowledge you have stored in your own mental Cloud. The bonus “Wimoweh: Five and a Half Years Later” was great. I’ve never heard that before. Love the funky horn sections! And I didn’t realize The Tokens recorded “She Lets Her Hair Down.” I remember the song from the shampoo commercials. I found it on YouTube and gave it a listen. Very nice. Although who goes to sleep with their hair up? Well, maybe she had it in curlers overnight. I did that a few times back then. (Uncomfortable!) Or hey, maybe she’s been up all night…I don’t judge.

    Speaking of commercials…

Thanks, Ian. Now I’ve got this stuck in my head all day: “I want tuna, I want liver, I want chicken, please deliver.”

  3. Serendipitously, Mandarin for cat is “māo,” giving the Meow Mix jingle another level.

Thumbs up for TKAtVGPS being an overlooked masterpiece, especially being a bit coolly received upon release. It’s a bold claim they were the best band in England at the time, though, given Cream and, well, The Beatles.

I dunno why I’m nitpicking here when I have a show of my own to rant on. Obsessiveness, probably.
