  1. I have a similar feeling about The Princess Bride the movie versus the book as Dave does about Blade Runner versus Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? I read the book years before the movie came out. I even had two copies, one an early “red letter” edition in which “Bill Goldman’s” commentary is in red (instead of italics). The book has the extra framing device of the narrator trying to interest his own child in “Morgenstern’s” book and discovering he was only read “the good parts” as a boy. So on top of it purporting to be an “abridged classic” of a “translated” adventure novel, the book also slyly pokes fun at literature and writers and memory. When the movie came out, I thought it was entertaining but the comedic style was way broader than I was expecting given the faux-serious tone of the book.
