Even though I don’t remember it first hand, I think the 60’s had the most innovative and change than any other decade in our lifetimes. I absolutely loathe the music from the 1950’s, my Mom listened to all that doo-wop cheesy stuff and it annoyed me from an early age. The 70’s, which I remember, is a close second to the 60’s, but there’s something heavy and dour to it when compared to the 60’s for me. I used to like the 70’s best but when I think about it compared to the 60’s, the flourishing of so many musical styles beats one-side album rock operas and disco just by a hair. Maybe it’s hard to put the 70’s in second place because I remember it so well and even though I was being influenced by it, it didn’t resonate the way the 60’s stuff did when I caught up with it later. Being partial to The Beatles and The Rolling Stones might be the reason for this and it’s hard to choose because I’m still an ELO and Pink Floyd fan as well. Then there was the 80’s, which I’ve really heard enough of and has become almost unlistenable to me now, been there and done the hell out of that.
The video posted with Wilson and Martin was really nice. I don’t know all that much about Brian Wilson and I’m not that knowledgable on the Beach Boys catalogue but I’ve always known Wilson was a complicated musician. What I really adored was how George Martin can come in and do what he does flawlessly and with little effort, making everything better with his expertise. I’ve always been in awe of him, he really was a skilled producer.
I had an emergency root canal done over Easter weekend years ago and I had no choice but to go to an endodontist who happened to be working. He was drilling and drilling and even though he had numbed me for the procedure I think it was wearing off. he didn’t seem to be making much progress either and he kept saying stuff like, “You have some of the longest inscisors I’ve ever seen, we might have to stop this and bring you in for another appointment.” Then he punched through what I guess was a membrane in my tooth and drilled right into the nerve. I jumped and saw our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ a total of five times through tears in my eyes. I think my hearing failed too. He felt bad about it and took a gentler approach afterwards but I never went back to that guy again. I found a lovely endodontist that my dentist recommended for my next two root canals and I actually fell asleep both times.
Always a welcome to hear Jason on the podcast, I think cousins are special and I could do a podcast with any of mine. I have fun with all my cousins and it’s evident that David and Jason have some great family chemistry. I liked you guys discussing your Grandfather and his stories, mine used to sit with a huge bowl of nuts and crack them too…just not with a vise.
Hope everyone is staying cool out there in Sneaky Dragonland, find your nearest pool or body of water and jump right in if you have to!!
Until next week…
