The Old Is New Again!

Hi everyone! I mean, Sneakers! It’s been a while since we did a “Links” post, but we had a special one this week so I thought I’d throw a few up here on the website in case some people don’t see our Facebook page.

First up is our own Ian in a Radio Shack commercial from 1996.

What a nice looking fellow! How are Radio Shacks doing in other parts of the world? Here in Canada the chain was bought out by Best Buy and turned into The Source. I guess there are not enough ham radio operators building their own radio sets to support a store like Radio Shack. Another reason the whole ham radio operator crash of the early-2000’s was such a disaster!

Ian mentioned a Ben Folds Five video featuring Muppets, which I’d never seen so here it is:

Awww, that’s adorable. Actually, the Fraggles are a bit late for me as I was firmly ensconced in teenage gloom by the time they came along so I don’t have any nostalgia for them, but it was cool anyway.

Here is a making of video as a chaser:

People talking about themselves! (Like a podcast.)

Well, I know this one was short and sweet, but sometimes you have to ease yourself back into the saddle.

Ciao, Sneakers!

  1. Does that commercial seem depressing to anybody else? It’s like instead of a family, the guy just has a computer to come home to and turn on all his crap

It’s even worse because it’s clearly Christmas and the guy is home alone at night

Found another ad for it on YouTube:

Some just look like a plug in timer with no connectivity to the computer, while others look like they use a phone line to hook up to the system.

    1. Ha ha. I love the name “Aptiva” too. It’s so focus-grouped, there is nothing human left in that name. Nowadays we get computers with ridiculous names like Asus and Acer that are clearly made up on the spot by a guy in a hurry.
