Sneaky Dragon Episode 161

Sneaky-Dragon-Episode-161

Hello, Sneakerinos! This week on the show we welcome in the New Year…or do we? Ian and Dave are all ready to put 2014 behind them and get a head start on 2015. Discussed on the show this week: the porn rainbow; recording in an igloo; and mom troubles. The guys spend a lot of time talking about old TV shows: Land of the Lost, Gilligan’s Island, The Brady Bunch, I Love Lucy and Leave It To Beaver all get a look in. Dave wonders about the dismal American comedy of the Fifties; they ponder wolves in sheep’s clothing and finish up the first show of the year with a lot of pet talk: Ian’s cat history is reviewed and Dave’s dogs are also mentioned, including the guest who never left: Al Capone.

One last reminder to come on down to Slickety Jim’s Chat’n’Chew on January 4th at 7:00 for PODMASH, a new podcast format featuring three different podcasts discussing the same topic for twenty minutes each. This show will feature Sneaky Dragon, Dazed and Convicted and Science Us.

Thanks for listening.

  1. Hi Guys,

Great show today. I was going to post a picture of my 4 legged friends, but couldn’t figure out how to do it. My wife and I have adopted 2 rescue dogs, and 2 rescue rabbits. The story about how we got our first rabbit is interesting, so I though I would share it.

My wife is a bus driver. One day she was driving in Richmond (know for an overpopulation of rabbits). A couple of teen age girls got on her bus with a little black bunny that would fit in the palm of your hand. We’re guessing around a week old. They were carrying it in a plastic bag. My wife asked what they were doing with it. They said they were going to go set it free in the forest. She said no, took the bunny and kept him in her vest for the rest of her shift. Our best guess is they found some wild rabbits in the forest, scared away the mother and siblings, caught this little guy and carried him around the mall until they were bored. Originally we planned to take him to the SPCA, but a tiny bunny is way too cute so he’s stayed here since.

He was raised by our 2 dogs, so now he thinks he’s a dog too. It’s pretty funny. After a year, we decided he needed a friend of his own species, so we went to the Vancouver Rabbit Rescue and Advocacy (vrra.org) and found him a rabbit friend. They do great work, so if anyone’s looking for a rabbit, they are the best bet and can really use the support.

Thanks again, and see you guys tomorrow. Looking forward to the live podcast.

  2. Whisky Galore is more of a ship full of whisky crashes on to an island during the war type film.
Similar movie around that time could be The Maggie
A recent movie about whisky would be The Angels Share , A Ken Loach comedy-drama

    1. Thanks for the clarification, Stuart. Clearly I was talking through my tam o’shanter! About ten years ago, TCM – a classic movie channel – played a bunch of Ealing comedies – many of which I’d seen because I grew up in Canada where British culture used to still hold sway, but also some more obscure ones like Whiskey Galore, The Titfield Thunderbolt and Run for Your Money. All of them were really good!

Nice to hear from you. Happy New Year!

        1. Thanks, Stuart. I will definitely watch this with my wife – the true Scot in our household.

You might enjoy this documentary about Glascow’s own Belle and Sebastian and the creation of their first two LPs.

  3. I so fail. You guys finally talked about your critters and it took me almost a week to find time to comment! Thank you, though. I loved hearing about them all, especially the cats. What can I say… I love dogs, I truly do, but I love cats more.

Here are/were my cats, Madsy (grey/white, recently deceased) and Mackaroo (black/brown, alive and snuggling). They were both double-rescues, originally adopted from shelters in ~2003 by my grandfather. When he died soon after, I rescued them again so they could stay together (they were very close, as you can see). Madsy died in October of last year after a 6-month illness, during which time I found you guys via Compleatly Beatles. I desperately needed some laughter in my life, so I ended up listening to the whole SD series within about a month or two. Mackaroo is lonely but doing relatively well otherwise. I will be rescuing a new companion for him very soon. Rescues are the best!

Thanks again for talking about your pets. I enjoyed it very much and had many giggles and “awwww” moments over the stories.

    1. Thanks, “Kitty”, for the picture and the story. I’m glad we could help you through a rough time. My daughter “Phyllis” loves, loves, loves the name Mackaroo, bee tee dubs!

P.S. I fixed it so we could see your picture.
