Sneaky Dragon Episode 300

by David Dedrick on September 2, 2017

This is it, Sneakers! We made it to 300 shows!

To celebrate, Ian and Dave popped into 8th Dimension Comics, their local comic book shop, to record a live episode with comics artist Steve Skroce, who has worked with the Wachowskis (The Matrix Trilogy, Speed Racer, et al.), George Miller (Justice League Mortal) and Brian K. Vaughan (We Stand On Guard), as well as himself on his own Maestros.

After a fantastic opening song from trusty local music legend David M., Ian, Dave and Steve give thanks; eat Brownie’s Chicken; discover Steve’s fast-food chicken past; pit Col. Sanders against Capt. Crunch; work with Clive Barker; work with The Wachowskis; ride Keanu Reeves coattails: prefer living in the matrix; wonder who was two; laud the Wachowskis for at least trying; make some bold statements; pitch Jumani in space; question R.L. Stein’s existence; speak the truth; snatch some bodies; work with George Miller, state “Comics are better”; work with Brian K. Vaughan; talk more chickenshit; defy the pro-chicken lobby; attempt a horse show update; have children; name Dave’s best daughter; work on Maestros; enlarge a penis; fondly remember Mugs’n’Jugs; announce our contest winners; and, finally, close out on two songs: David M ends the show with a touching medley and then we hear a great song sent in by listener Chris Roberts, “When Sneaky Dragon Flies”.

Thanks for listening. (Oh, and wait for the little bonus David M. song at the end. Warning: it starts off quiet and then gets loud. Do not adjust your set.)

Congratulations to our “Eat With Us” contest winners: Karlin Leshchyshyn, Jay Aguerra, and Crystal King! (Sorry if you didn’t win, but we will do this again.)

But don’t despair, you can still take part in our little show by sending us your story. If you need a prompt, Ian suggested “your secret origin” and Dave suggested “how how you found Sneaky Dragon” Please record a two to three minute story and send it to us via email (sneakyd@sneakydragon.com) or our Facebook page. Or Skype “Sneaky Dragon” and leave a message on our voicemail. David will add a playlist for your story as well.

And now, with Marcus Harwell’s permission, here is his spec cover for Frank Bigfoot, PI:

Some irresponsible driving there, Marcus.

And here are some pictures from the live recording of Sneaky Dragon’s 300th episode thanks to Nathan Evans:

Come on in!

Dave rocks the mike (or mic).

David M. ready for the blather.

Sort of a full house!

Steve says something interesting before Dave and/or Ian interrupt.

David sings; Dave extends his parking.

Former guest Heather Gilbraith and her new hubbie Dennis talk with former guest Colin Upton. (Ian wasn’t joking.)

David pays his bill.

And let’s end this endless post with Chris Robert’s gift of song:

What a fun show, truly worthy of being the 300th episode! I loved it! The music by David M and Chris Roberts was so good! The conversation with Steve was great, too. I’ll be honest… I’m usually not a big fan of the live shows, but this one changed my mind way over here in North Carolina! Fantastic! 🙂

Yes, the live shows are a different animal to our studio-bound episodes. The pressure of all those potentially-yawning faces looking back at you can really change the dynamic. Still. every once in a while it’s good to change things up!

And Steve was a great guest who quickly “got” the show. Plus great music from David and Chris, and a great audience. What more could we ask for?

Congratulations on your 300th podcast! It was a very hot live show. *wink* My sister and enjoyed David M’s musical offerings and hearing about Steve’s many adventures in the film and comics industries.

This week’s Chick Talk raised some interesting, if disgusting, questions I had to find out the answers to. I was relieved to learn that a chicken has a membrane that extrudes from that one overworked orifice of hers that prevents eggs from coming into contact with the substances David D described. Oh and the eggs come out fat-end first. Ouch.

Say, when discussing horse matters on Sneaky Dragon, have you ever called it Canter Banter?

Oooooo, Canter Banter, I like it!
