Sneaky Dragon Episode 615

Hola, Sneakers! It’s Episode 615 of the show that is always public domain!

This week Ian and David talk: lost and phoned; he’s a monk man; Ahsoka to me; ancient Jedi; what’s your reference; judge droid; good baddie; hidden influences; bear Bottom; wrong players; alarmed; ach, eye; reading rainbow; injury to eye motifs; formal presentation; Jam traffic; where the hullabaloo is top of the American bandstand; hams solo; the Dylan mystique; sinister dealings; “b” quicker; imaginary profile; the polite farce; the merry buds of May; loving Lovitz; Dave’s movie blind spot; errors of comedy; Murder By Decree decree; the false promises of The Last Action Hero; I.P.s freely; and, finally, domain by demand.

Question of the Week: Who is your favourite parody character?
Sub-question of the Week: How do you read? Do you picture the story? Hear the character voices? Or read it one gigantic chunk?

Thanks for listening.

  1. It’s a parody novel rather than just one character, but I remember getting a laugh out the names in National Lampoon’s Doon (1984) written by Ellis Weiner. Rather than being set on Arrakis, the Desert Planet, it story is set on “Arruckus, the Dessert Planet.” Instead of Paul Atreides also known as Usul and Muad’dib, the lead character is Pall Agamemnides also known as Assol and Mauve’bib.

When I was in primary school and picked up books that were too advanced, I’d just read the dialogue and skip the description. Since getting an e-reader, I’ve found myself unconsciously doing that again. I’ll have to tap back a page to figure out who’s speaking or if there’s been a change in location. It may be that my reading speed has slowed down, but my page turning speed has remained the same. One quirk I have is reading some of the dialogue out loud if a book is set somewhere where the characters would have a regional accent, just to remind myself to “hear” the accent in my head.
