I’m so sorry for your loss, Laurel. Thanks for sharing how you and your sister watched and chatted about episodes of Get Smart before her passing. My brothers and I watched it in reruns after school so that brings back good memories of how close we were back then. These days, the people of the world all seem to be shouting at each other through their sides of the Cone of Silence, leaving us vulnerable to the forces of Kaos. We need to make the most of our time together so we don’t have to say, “Missed it by that much.”
I have several cool nieces. One of them is a classically-trained soprano who performs in musicals, on cruise ships and at theme parks all over the world. She now has a side hustle as a pearl diver at SeaWorld. She dives down and retrieves oysters from the bottom of a giant aquarium for visitors who’ve paid a fee to take home a souvenir pearl.
I tend to get overheated if I wear pajamas so I prefer a night shirt. But my feet get cold easily so I wear socks to bed. Even more essential to a good night’s sleep is the elaborate configuration of pillows, bolsters and wedges I use to stay comfortable till morning is nigh.
I too would like to offer sincere condolences to Laurel and her family during this difficult time. I think it’s accurate to repeat how both Sneaky Dragon and its listening family offer support and comfort to us all and transcends as only a podcast. I was moved by Laurel’s news when I heard about her sister Julie and as part of the Sneaky Dragon family convey our love and prayers.
I’ve slept in only boxers for most of my life, I don’t think I’ve owned pajamas since I was a kid. If I get cold, I’ll either put on a blanket or in extreme cold put on a pair of pajama bottoms only. I can’t sleep when I feel tangled up in clothing since I roll at night, the boxers give me that freedom. I also have a big red robe I wear and is right next to my bed, it’s like my own “Cloak of Levitation” as if I were Doctor Strange wandering around the Sanctum Sanctorum at night.
My coolest relative of all time and the one who we have the most stories about was my cousin Michael. A few years younger than me, Michael and I were very close growing up even though he was in Chicago and then San Diego while in his late teens and twenties. Michael would drive through Dallas on his way between Chicago to Dallas and on occasion I’d join him for half the trip and fly back. Simply put, Michael was like a real life Ferris Bueller, fearless and full of adventure. He even has a very envious older sister. Unfortunately, Michael died in 1996 while touring through Spain along with a van of law students. Some of the best times in life involved Michael and his antics, they’re still being discussed and shared between myself and my cousins, Michael’s three older sisters and younger brother. I won’t go into detail about any of the stories but let’s just say one of the best had Michael and I stranded in the mountains of New Mexico during a blizzard back in January of 1990. We escaped and were gambling in Las Vegas a day later.
So Ian, you’re watching “Severance” too huh? I can’t put into words how much I anticipate that show each week and without spoiling anything or giving any detail, it’s one of the most immersive television shows I’ve ever seen. I’m selling several Severance designs daily on my Redbubble site due to the popularity of season 2, mostly stickers, pins and magnets, check them out here:

I finished “Paradise” and I hope it continues on, I’ll definitely watch a season 2 of that. And then there’s “Daredevil Born Again” which started up under Disney after a long hiatus…totally worth the wait. I’m all in with Marvel’s grounded return of Daredevil, my wish list would be to see Matt team up with Spider-Man. Maybe SONY will loosen their grasp a bit and let this happen.
Much love and laughter to all my Sneaky Dragon family. If you love someone, tell them today because you never know if you’ll have the chance tomorrow. So…love to all you guys.
I am slow to say it, but thank you so much to Louise and Edward for the kind condolences after hearing of my sister, Julie’s death. I have been so moved by your sympathy. Thank you, dear ones.
