The Fansplainers – Spider-Man: Far from Home

Hello, fellow cinephiles! This week Ian and David return to a familiar well and take a look at the newest Marvel superhero spectacle: Spider-Man: Far from Home.

Ian – a big-time Spider-Man fan – is more than happy with this film; David has maybe grown a little bored of these CGI-heavy third act snoozefests.

Who’s right? Let us know in the comments below. Do you want more superhero movies or are you ready to move on?

Not sure what to think? Well, let Ian and Dave fansplain it for you.

  1. Thanks for the insightful recap. I enjoyed revisiting all those great moments in the movie. Sorry Dave, my sister and I disagree that Jake Gyllenhaal would’ve been “too good-looking” to play Spider-Man. I love his acting in movies like Source Code but for me, he’s always had that sad hurt puppy dog look that makes you want to rescue him and give him a big hug, so I have trouble seeing him as a superhero — or as a superhero villain, for that matter. I was surprised when I heard he was cast as Mysterio until the big twist was revealed in the movie, then it made perfect sense.

Also, the first thing I said to my sister after the movie was that they really should’ve had a female teacher chaperone on the trip. She’s taken students to Europe and Peter Parker would have had a much harder time slipping away if she were patrolling the hotel hallways.
