Sneaky Dragon Episode 405

Hola, Sneakers! Welcome to Episode 405 of Sneaky Dragon. This week Ian and David are joined by auditor David Russell, who dropped by to see how a podcast is made.

And he chose our podcast. Strange.

Anyway, this week on the show: our mystery novels; cooking on video; arnolding; stirring creatures; chicken recipes; bread and butter; corn dog problems; we love the PNE; “kombacha” right atcha; tradition is important; super dogs; disappointing prize home; junk food metabolism; epic hot dog tale; big B.C.; personal time; ghost dad; a good run spoiled; hang ups; midway physics; horse danger; itchy; Hagar-iana; sombre chick talk; squirrel jerks; hidden cameras; Question of the Week – Sneakers respond; the “Oirish” accent continues; Twitter catch-up; podcast superstars; hon; blowing; and, finally, social signals.

Thanks for listening.

Question of the Week: Can you remember a time you were ignored?
Sub-question: Is there a place you are or were a regular?

Remembrances:
While editing the show it occurred to us that Robertson Davies’ trilogy of novels that take place in a small-ish Ontario town not unlike Stratford, Ontario is called The Salterton Trilogy. (We may be exaggerating the relation to Stratford though – it’s been a couple of decades since reading those books. Highly recommended though if you ever happen to find them – Tempest-Tost, Leaven of Malice, and A Mixture of Frailties.)

  1. A time I was ignored: I dated a guy once who didn’t want to be in an exclusive relationship. Which was fine. If we were at the same party, he’d ignore me, I guess to show that he wasn’t “taken.” Which was also fine. But at this one costume party, I was chatting with a good-looking dude dressed as Robin Hood or a Tolkien elf or something, and suddenly the guy came up beside me and put his arm around my waist…I guess to show that I was “taken.” Later the guy warned me, “He’s a dog” (in the “player” or “womanizer” sense of the word.) The hypocrisy amused me, so that was fine too.

  2. Not to exaggerate, but I’m ignored all the time by almost everyone I know. I’m a bit long-winded so most everyone gets enough of me pretty fast. I’m not sure if I’m even truly liked or loved by most…it’s more like being “kindly tolerated.”

I was a regular before and after I worked at Lone Star Comics back in the 80’s. We had lots of regulars who came in the same time every week to pick up their comics…mostly local customers. It got to where we knew what they liked or read, so we could hold certain books for them. I got the job there because I was a regular. After I left town to go to college, I’d swing by on Fridays to pick up my comics if I came in for the weekend.

  3. A time I’ve been ignored? I’d say most of the time. In a group conversation situation if I talk I typically am ignored or talked over. I like to think it’s because I have a naturally quiet voice (which is a far better thought than it being that I have nothing interesting to say, lol).
Place I was a regular at? There was a nightclub in Vancouver on the corner of Drake and Seymour called Luv-A-Fair. Oh, how I loved that place, and still miss it so. I also miss my hearing, which disappeared due to their great sound system. The price of good entertainment, I guess.
