Question of the Week: You’re a teenager. What do you spend your fun money on?
Sub-question of the Week: If you visited France, where would you prefer to go: the art galleries, the restaurants or its beaches and scenery?

Thanks for listening.

Thanks to Louise for sending this vintage – and very nostalgic – movie poster from our distant pasts!

  1. Teenage me spent her fun money on movies and plays. France-visiting me prefers seeing art galleries. We have plenty of restaurants, beaches and scenery here at home.

I’d totally order a Sneaky Dragon calendar! But rather than just one theme, I’d prefer a sampler of all the topics the title cards cover such as movies, TV, comics, music, books, and product packaging (like the Kraft Dinner box). As a marketing ploy, you could pick ones that also plug your spin-off podcasts.

    1. Also, I just finished watching Judd Apatow’s documentary, “George Carlin’s American Dream” and was quite shocked when they showed clips of Rick Moranis satirizing him on SCTV. Have you seen that and if so, what did you think of seeing a comedian hacking on another comedian like that?

  2. Achtung Gentlemen! How are my friends to the far north doing tonight? Let’s see, what did I do with all that filthy green stuff I had as a teen? I sure didn’t spend it on drugs, dating or tobacco like all the other red-blooded teens I grew up with, I spent it on COMICS! You already know which ones too. I also spent my hard earned simoleons on art supplies, like markers or colored pencils, record albums, VHS Tapes and did I mention COMICS? I did pretty well with making money on the side by drawing stuff for people, so I had a steady flow aside from the money I was making by working. Whatever was left, I spent on gas, which was a whole lot cheaper then.

I dream of visiting Europe someday, France especially. It’s a no brainer that I’d rush to the art galleries first to see the magnificent art with my own eyes instead of seeing it in books my whole life. Did I mention my son has just graduated college and is well on his way to being an art teacher? He plans on a Masters in art history someday so I’d really like him by my side as I visited these museums and galleries in France, that would be the greatest experience I can think of. Food would be a close second since I’ve never experienced French cuisine at that level. I imagine riding a bicycle through the streets of Paris with baguettes in the basket while listening to the “Ratatouille” film score.

You two had me yelling at the podcast twice during the last show. I immediately said, “Wild Cherry Pepsi lip balm!!” at the beginning of the show, I knew that because we had Dr Pepper lip balm made by the same company that made all the other soda based flavors. We had Dr Pepper everything in the licensing department. One time I almost made $100, all I had to do was eat an entire bag of Dr Pepper jelly beans in an hour. It was impossible, you can’t chew them fast enough and my jaws wore out trying it. So much for my Cool Hand Luke moment, where was George Kennedy when I needed him?

The other time during the podcast I was answering back at you two was when Dave mentioned the style of apparel printing that they use now, called Dye Sublimation Printing. The images are digitally dyed into the material making them last much longer than the old ways of heat to surface transfer. This was a game changer when it was introduced and made for better looking, long lasting apparel printing.

You guys mentioned The Spaghetti Warehouse restaurants in the show, we have two of them in the Dallas area! I think they’re still in business to this day, it was a great place to congregate with large groups of friends back in the day and eat in one of those trolleys or a table that looked like a huge bed. The larger Spaghetti Warehouse downtown even had a room that showed cartoons you could watch while you ate, it was a great place to go as a kid.

I’m enjoying the shit out of “Star Trek Strange New Worlds” and now “Obi-Wan Kenobi”! I never thought I’d see a day when I could watch both a Star Wars AND a Star Trek series weekly.

Also, I realize I called Lee Majors “The Bionic Man” instead of the “Six Million Dollar Man” last time I wrote. I was attempting to avoid inflation and I didn’t want to attach a specific worth to anyone.

Ian, Happy Swimming!! It’s wonderful exercise and to Dave, may you get all your stuff back into your house very soon! Have a wonderful weekend and week to all the beautiful Sneakers out there!

  3. Hi gents,

Been a while since I’ve had time to write. Hope all is well. Great to hear that Ian is getting some pre-Summer pool access. I love swimming and am lucky to have several local pools to choose from, but like Ian, I much prefer when I have the pool to myself – or at least a lane to myself. I can’t handle the underwater tension of knowing that some human torpedo is barrelling up behind me, or worse, trying to overtake me when there is also someone swimming in the opposite direction. All that said, it is too cold for pools here in Australia now as we just clicked over into winter and temperatures are dropping to an icy 30degrees celsius.

As a teenager (in the 80s and 90s) all my cash went on CDs, movie memorabilia and books, most of which are now packed up in boxes under my house. Ironically if I’d saved my money back then I probably could have bought a house about two decades earlier, but where is the fun in that?

As for France, go for all of it! ALL OF IT!

A belated comment on Dave’s ‘Queen’ themed playlist from a few episodes back… I can’t believe you didn’t include the iconic Suzanne Vega song ‘The Queen and the Soldier’ which she still performs in her concerts to this day. It is a beautiful, narrative song which definitely belongs on any list of ‘Queen’ songs.

Looking forward to your 550th episode!

    1. It doesn’t have the word “Queen” in the title, but “Elizabeth Reigns” by Ringo Starr may have been a contender in the Queen Music line-up. For that matter, maybe even “Her Majesty” by The Beatles too! I always thought it was a nice sign-off to Abbey Road.

  4. Hello, All–

All my teen fun money went to movies and popcorn while watching movies.

    France: Museums

I knew you two were cool. I didn’t know you were Phil Ochs cool.
