This week was a landslide of misspeaks as Dave somehow forgot about the album Mingus Plays Piano – a solo piano album that came out in 1964 on Impulse! Records. The producer of Simon and Garfunkel’s career-defining single of “Sounds of Silence” was Tom Wilson – a name that often slips Dave’s mind – who also produced early Bob Dylan, The Velvet Underground and The Mothers of Invention (so a pretty important dude in modern music). Also, the first Simon and Garfunkel album was Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M..

Before questions, Congratulations on that Clio Award! Nice win! Is it possible to post the award winning ads for us? I’d love to see them, or a link to them?
I have quite the menagerie with two dogs and enough of a cat to make two regular cats, so I’m not really keen on where I’d keep a wild animal. I’m also more of an advocate on letting wild animals run free where they belong and not confined to limited spaces.
I worked freelance for a woman back in the early 90’s who was a partner with the Dallas Zoo, she’d take in animals that needed care and help. I did these children’s books that came with tapes of her singing about animals that she sold to schools. I loved visiting her home in Dallas to deliver the art because I’d get to see all sorts of animals that were being nursed back to health by her. She had an incubator with baby possums that had lost their mother, they slept in rolled up warm socks that felt like the mom’s pouch. There was a giant turtle in the bathtub suffering from allergies, antihistamines floated in the water to help him recover. And she had a giant terrarium with a python, I have no idea what he was there for but I got to hold him for awhile. For one, he was heavy as hell, and two, I had to keep moving so he wouldn’t wrap around my arm twice….had he done so, he could have easily broken my arm. I wonder what ever happened to her and if anyone else unselfishly helps animals in need like her for our local zoo.
If I had the space and it was enough for a wild animal outside, I’d like something sweet, docile and easy going like a sloth, a lemur or a koala bear, nothing that might suddenly rip my face off one day. I sure would like to pet a lion or a tiger one day up close though, that would be cool to interact with such a beautiful animal. If Susan had her wish, it would be any of those orangutans from the Paramount+ show “Orangutan Jungle School” she watches regularly. If you’ve ever seen it, they raise the orangutans who need help and care due to loss and neglect. Susan just falls in love with every one of them, I’m sure she’d love to hug them all.
If I screwed up royally in this life (and I hope I don’t), I’d probably come back as a dung beetle living in a piece of shit. I’d then form a band with the other dung beetles called the “Shitty Beatles” with our new hit, “Dung Together.” Personally, I’d like to think reincarnation is more along the lines of Albert Brooks’ film, “Defending Your Life.” Wasn’t Shirley MacLaine a huge advocate of reincarnation back in the day?
Lastly, a huge Happy Birthday to David! Was it really the same day as Ash Wednesday? How did you kick off Lent and have birthday cake on the same day?…if you are in fact cutting out sugar like you have in the past.
